I Hold Myself Back

Who am I to be?

If I know not who I am now:

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t me,

So that I wouldn’t have to bow.

I second guess and mistrust myself only to later bleed

Therefore how could anyone believe;

She is the one to follow; we put our trust in her to lead.

No trophies on my bookshelf to prevent the aggrieve,

Of the reality that there are lack of flowers, and mostly weeds.

Fear of mistakes & lack of bravery have impeded any progress.

Change is needed! Change myself I plead!

Here I kneel and address all I have suppressed

Acknowledging that perhaps accepting myself is the first step

To becoming the lead & the poet I need to be and no longer being inept.
