I Know
Darling, you're so afraid,
I know,
I can feel the hollow in your bones,
when you hold me not-so-close,
I can see the receding tides,
In your eyes,
You don't really look at me anymore.
Darling, you're lost,
I know,
I notice now you feel so out of place,
In the crowds,
and even more so,
when you're alone.
I can tell you're feeling,
less and less human,
and more and more
like candle wax.
Darling, you're drowning,
I know,
I can touch the air around us,
It's too thick to breathe,
Like all that cigarette smoke,
you've been inhaling lately.
I can hear how shallow your
breaths are,
when I watch the ceiling at night,
and I know your eyes aren't closed,
Either.
Darling, I know.
