I Know
No one cares.
No one cares, but its ok, but no one cares.
I know, I know, you’re trying to teach me a lesson I already know.
You live to stand on your soapbox and
Preach to us about life
Like you’re making ours better,
Telling us about the cutthroat reality of the world
As if that’ll make us happy.
But I already know.
I know, I know.
I know that my struggles will never end and
The world doesn’t revolve around me and
If I really wanted to do something I would’ve made the time to do it
And that there are no excuses but damn.
I thought you understood,
But no, now I understand.
No one cares. But it’s ok, but no one cares.
Fine.
I’ll do what you really want me to do.
You claim you just want me to succeed
But really you just want me to care
About the subject as much as you do.
You want me to make it my whole life.
All eight of you want my whole life,
Each ignoring the other’s plea,
Talking over each other
As if the others don’t exist
But I hear you all.
A cacophony that
If not pacified with signs of my desperation,
Or as you call it “grit” or “perseverance”,
Will turn into disappointed silence or
Another soapbox preaching about life.
I’m so tired.
My belly aches with hunger as
Yet another meal was skipped for you.
The hunger I feel now for nourishment must symbolize
Your hunger for my time.
You like to tell me of all the things you have to do,
Talk about how your time doesn’t revolve around me
And yet expect mine to revolve around you.
You want to be my life.
You all want to be my life.
But I only have one.
Ah—I know.
I know, I know, I know.
You don’t care, I know.
Now I know.
