I Know
Hey you,
I know
I know that this year has pushed you to your limits
And that sometimes life kind of sucks
Actually a lot of times life really sucks
I know that you’ve messed up, and that you’ve done things you regret
You’ve skipped out on assignments
You’ve put off college applications and
Meetings with teachers
I know you’ve lied
All kinds of ways
Little fibs, white lies, partial truths, and wholehearted, full, detailed lies that cannot contain an Ounce of honesty
I know those lies have come back to haunt you right as the stars come out, and everything should Be peaceful except for the feeling
The feeling that something is being hollowed out in your stomach, and slowly, little drips of guilt Are filling the cavity
I know that you’ve cried.
A lot.
Sometimes crying can be therapeutic, but I know
Yours hasn’t been.
I know that nobody knows
Well actually three people know, but I know that you think one has forgotten, and the other person is us
I know you are sad, I know you feel lonely, I know you feel angry, and frustrated
I know that those never go away
But.
Sometimes they do
Sometimes
In a moment of bubbling laughter spilling out of your lips,
All you can feel is the happy
Sometimes,
Sitting in a parked car with the music pulsing through your whole body, screaming the words to an old, old song, next to a loved friend,
All you can feel is the music
Sometimes,
Driving through a parking lot, with your head, shoulders, and arms out of the sunroof, cold, cold wind whipping your hair in a frenzy,
All you can feel is the wind
I know it’s easier to write about sad things than happy things
I know you think that the hard outnumber the easy
I know you think the sad outnumber the happy
I know what you want your life to look like
I know you’re on your way there
I know the way isn’t easy, but
I know there is a way
I know
I know
I know
