I know who you are
"He doesn't even know you exist."
I know. I don't need you to tell me.
I slip through the crowd. Many people do not know I exist.
Why would they? I am not cool enough, right?
Nor am I pretty enough, skinny enough, short enough.
I know.
"I thought you were smart."
I know. I did too. But how would you know who I am?
How would you know that I am no good at math?
Or that I have trouble focusing in class.
That I love to sing but am too afraid of rejection to show people.
That my mind races with anxiety every day.
How would you know that I love art?
How would you know that I care for about all those around me
even when they don't care about me?
How would you know that I listen to Wheezer and love to read?
I am an observer.
I know who you are. This is how I know you do not care who I am
Because you don't know who you are.
You put on a mask every morning.
You walk through the hallways saying hello to all your "friends".
They too do not know themselves.
Everyone walks down the halls, so concerned about what everyone else thinks of them,
that they don't know what they think of themselves.
For this reason, I do not feel bad
I do not feel bad that people don't take the time to know who I am,
for I have already done so myself.
Until you have found yourself, do not assume you know who I am.
You do not know who I am.
