I know why the chained, wounded and caged sing

Awaiting the moment when I no longer live for the approval of others older than me

I need to break out and get freedom

I am no longer as young and as dumb

Me; I was a chained flower, chained by a vine that refuses to let me go

Sucking life from me and I’m ignoring it like I don’t know I can’t keep letting it steal my life

Slowly killing me taking my happiness, my liberty it just won’t let me free

I am no longer a butterfly with a wounded wing that won’t let me catch the sky

Constantly dragging me down to the ground

I continually force my way up, I can’t give up enough is ENOUGH

I will no longer be a caged bird by the window

Catching the breeze as it ruffles my feathers breathing in the fresh air waiting for another

I look through the cage, with anger and rage

I stare out the window to take me away from my hated reality

When that moment comes and the vine dies, the wing heals and the cage and window are opened

I will blossom, I will fly and I will soar as high and I will no longer be sucked dry

My season will come, my blessings will flow LIFE will be given not stolen

I will no longer watch others live and soar to new heights for they will be watching me

But as of now I'm still waiting but I know not for much longer

Each day the flower gets a little longer, the wing a little stronger and the cage/window get wronger
