I Live in a Beautiful World
I live in a beautiful world
The sky is a gorgeous color and sometimes I am
lucky
enough to see light reflecting
off the water droplets that
make my world so
beautiful
The streets stay clean and
nobody is ever around to tell me
I can't do something.
I don't have to have dreams because all
I have to do is
reach my hand out and
it's right there
Nothing is impossible
the heavens are right above me and if
I stretch up my fingertips skim
bliss
My stomach never hurts
I never want to cry
except for happy tears which always seem
but a moment away
I talk to my friends
and laugh
and laugh
and laugh
Nothing will ever
hurt
me because the sky is blue and
rainbows soar overhead
It's ironic that a world where I don't need dreams
is just a dream
The sky is filled with smog which blackens any light that
yearns to reflect
The streets are filled with filth
any living thing imaginable laying at your feet
you scurry to your destination
Terrified
to look up and catch the attention of someone
you perceive
could hurt you.
Dreams are crushed when you're told,
“you're a women it will never happen”
“you're too short”
“you're not strong enough.”
or one of the other countless excuses used to
shove
glowing
optimistic
youths into the stereotypes
you assume applies to them
Everything is unreachable
you stretch out your hands and get
slapped
with the
harsh reality that
everyone else enforces.
Your stomach always hurts
you always want to cry
happy tears not even on the horizon.
You're friends are all the same, telling you that you
can't
reach that star, might as well settle now.
The adage shoot for the moon and even if you
miss
you'll land among the stars is thrown around but the
stars are not the goal
Fitting in is the goal, making it, is the goal.
Everything will hurt you.
I live in a beautiful world
An amazing country that has so much potential.
Where women are paid less than men and are
attacked
for speaking out about it
Where rape is a terrifying possibility that runs on a
consent loop in every woman's head and
they should be ready for it
If your skin is a different color be careful where you go
you wouldn't want to end up with holes.
If you're gay or trans
there's something
wrong
with you
you should really get that fixed.
The poor need to work harder
the alcoholics need to have some
self control.
I live in a beautiful world.
Where no one fits into the mold that
society deems perfect
just like Playdoh we are
molded
squeezed
squashed
until
we fit and come out a perfect cut out like
all the others
Surface level
people are the same
inside we are ripped at
our true selves screaming that they
deserve a turn to live
But they can't get out
and we continue on
carbon copies of each other
pretending
we aren't all miserable staring into a mirror
day in, day out
It's gets lonely when
you're by yourself
And we are all constantly
by ourselves
