I live where you vacation

Discovered by Columbus in 1492,

A land not always free,

Heavily steeped in slavery,

We found freedom from the British in 1973 .

An archipelago the Bahamas made of seven hundred islands and cays.

I’m proud to say I live where you vacation.

Yes year round sun,

Warm sand,

Crystal clear waters,

I live in a land dipped in rich culture.

From the way we talk,

To the words we speak like muddasick and jitney,

To our own music,

Rake and scrapin to the beat,

To the food we eat from the sea

True Delicacies.

I’m proud to say I live where you vacation,

What makes us Bahamian some may say

it’s the fact that so many people take pride in the gold black and aquamarine

Or It’s the love that we exude to people not from our country

It’s the fact that we come together and celebrate yearly, Junkanoo a festival filled with so much colors and creativity

Some people think it’s even our rich history

Maybe it’s the fact that each island is uniquely different from the next

Or maybe it’s just our sense of unity

I’m proud to say I live where you vacation

However it’s so much more to us than sun sand and sea

I’m proud to be Bahamian I’m proud to be apart of such a great country
