I lived in a glass box

I lived in a glass box

With the world on every side

The people beyond the walls made everything seem so easy

But my box was confining,

Everything I could ever want was right outside

Just beyond my grasp

-

Every day I was tormented

Watching the passersby do as they pleased

They had no restrictions,

No walls confining them

But the creative fire that burned so ardently in me,

Inspired me to build my own world

A kingdom of glass that I could make my home

So I graffitied the walls

Plastered them with bits of myself

In paint and vibrant colors

Pieces of my soul were put on display

I worked tirelessly to build a world inside my box

One that wouldn’t hold me back

A world where I could express myself

-

But soon my world was too small,

I desired more

I yearned for knowledge,

I sought to share myself with the world

So I started to push back against my constraints,

Determined

-

Little by little my box expanded

And people began passing through

With every visitor came a piece of the world outside

I started pasting these tokens to my walls,

I built them up until my walls were no longer reflections of me

But me and the world outside in coexistence

-

Now I see through a kaleidoscope

A world of colors and possibilities

I see no limits,

No walls to hold me back

I only envision the future

Everything I see is a step toward greatness,

Leaps and bounds to the rest of my life

I am Isabelle,

And nothing can stop me from being me
