I Looked

I looked into his eyes to see what I would find; I looked into his eyes, and I learned about life. I touched inside his hand to see how it would feel; I touched inside his hand and felt a pain so real. I leaned in to embrace and gently touched his face; I leaned in to embrace and smelled a past erased. I kissed him on the cheek – I could taste the wrinkled years; I kissed him on the cheek – I could taste his salted tears. A gray haired man is what I saw - who thought he lost it all; His gray haired bride too soon had died - empty space now at his side. I looked into his eyes to share my thoughts on life; I looked into his eyes - love now explained, I simply cried.

This is simply a poem about loss and the way that we see love truly shine in the darkest of times. It is about a young girl seeing an older man's love and his past and finding a new perspective on life.
