I Love the Different

Because I love you, time races against itself,

And we race with it, metaphysical entities

That can’t be stopped by anything.

Not even the expectations of those who watch.

And they do—they watch.

Perhaps they watch because they are jealous,

More likely they watch because we are different.

But I love the different.

With others the different gets pushed beneath

A sea of swirling normalcy.

Did I say the right thing?

Did I smile the right way?

No. No I didn’t.

Not when I’m with you

Because when I’m with you the swirling sea

Ebbs to reveal a singularity that you embrace.

We are different.

But I love the different.

Perhaps they watch because they are jealous.

Perhaps they are jealous because we are different.

I love the different.
