I LOVE TO WRITE

I got a story to write

When I speak it

Something that is so very dear to me

My tongue flips out, skipping and stumbling.

It’s like climbing a mountain, in which any wrong footing can take my beautiful perch to plummet straight below.

Writing keeps me there

It lets me preserve my memories as well as return to them just in case

I left my lunch in a niche.

I can reflect

The light sinks below the horizon giving a last minute golden fair well like a game

It shows a me that even I don’t know, hidden beneath many layers, a sort of twin in another universe

I grasp onto the sediments;

Branches, sticks, roots, some pebbles.

I can make another reality which makes me question

I look at the stones, when I at last am stable I begin to wonder about these pieces of matter so much older. Perhaps they are even wiser simply lacking the mouths and necessary parts to speak what is needed to be said.

Without hands, They are like me,

Following the trail of patterns where ever the wind blows or the water flows I hope to show the tale like so, like a master

like a god

creating a lush and vibrant world,

the energy felt,

a tingly warm feeling in the hands

the characters close enough to touch.

I know that is what I did before but something happened to my format when i edited it.

I agree this box of words looks ugly

Hi Eunoia,

Thanks for sharing this work! You've done an excellent job of using images to compare and contrast the experiences of speaking and writing for your speaker. I enjoyed the effect that zooming in and out with the macro- and micro-images created. It took me from the space of imagination back to thinking of how words on the page can capture and mirror the experience of thought.

As you think about revision, I would challenge you to focus on two things:

1. I love that you're working with prose poems, but the advice I give to poets working in this form (and I take the advice myself, too!) is to try the poem with line breaks as well. Sometimes it can help you find the most important moments/images in the poem, and it can help you hone the sound and more subtle elements, too.

2. I would like to see the final images of the poem unpacked a bit--the "master," this "world," the "energy," for example. What do they look/feel like? How does your speaker capture those on the page or embody them?

Happy writing!

j

I think so, but I know that everyone is different, talking can be much easier for some people while writing just happens to be easier for me.

Ant, I actually think you’re wrong. I think it is easier to write than it is to speak. Now maybe having to read what you wrote is a different story on its own, I think writing out what you have to say, think or feel is a lot easier because more often than sometimes we poets have found ourselves pressing our own backs into a corner because we want to keep them within our own possession. What do you think, Eunoia?

As well, I think this poem was artfully written and completely relatable. I’m sure it will be a fan favorite!

Becca.

Some would say it's easier to write then to talk and that is wrong both take a lot of courage to do and your writing is amazingly beautiful. Make sure you get your work out there and sometimes the best way to do that is to recite so if talking out loud is a problem for you practice. Let them know your story and keep doing what your doing.
