I love you, Dad
Whenever I close my eyes, that day replays in my mind
As I walk down the stairs, I’m afraid of the truth I’ll find
I look through the backdoor, I see all the cops outside
They were questioning my mom as if she had taken his life
She glanced over, saw me, and quickly rushed inside
I looked her in the eyes
She was clearly horrified
Struggling to say it, she muttered “dad has died”
I was frozen and petrified
She hugged me and then she cried
I walked upstairs thinking that I could hide
I sit on my bed, too many feelings inside
With the guitar by my side
I look up to the sky
I know if I start playing, my dad would be glowing with pride
So I start strumming, I pick and I slide
It’s my connection to him, to my guitar I confide
I tell myself, “He had one hell of a ride
He did everything in his power in order to provide
For his four daughters, his son, and his wife”
I tell myself “it’s ok” while the tears flow like the tide
I wrote that 3 years ago, and the pain never ceased
They tell you grief has 5 stages, but never really leaves
I lost my dad on May 25, 2014
The only day I wish I could’ve foreseen
Been on the verge of tears every day since
Not a day passes that I don’t reminisce
Society telling me to hide my own emotion
It’s like handing me a tattered rag and trying to sail the whole ocean
Well the poet’s notion
About sorrow and grief
Was hollow and cheap
He said “they followed the thief
That tried to borrow tomorrow’s peace”
Trust me, it was a rough pill to swallow indeed
But I’ve adopted the god Apollo as my creed
Now, I let my guitar speak when I have no words
I let the music reach my soul and nerves
I know the hurt
But your death is just my overture
I found blessing in this older curse
And these lessons will lessen my guessin if the situation was overturned
So thank you dad, thank you for the music, thank you for my own world
