I Love You...Not
It's a commercial experience
that forces us to change.
It never lasts.
It's a physical thing
with the occasional emotional attraction
but it always ends
with death,
time,
anger.
You will never be close enough to someone
to have that feeling
you know the one:
that feeling of being content.
The one that never happens
because there is no appreciation, no affection.
It's all a myth
and it's only made up.
It was a way to make babies,
to reproduce.
But with technology
all of that has changed;
there is no face to face.
It's all blundering conversation,
taken over by texting
and talking on the phone.
Sometimes it'd be best
if all batteries
were dead.
Technology has also given us
ways to reproduce
where the woman is almost completely taken out of the equation.
Test tube creations and cloning,
expenses don't matter.
And then there are the bad examples:
the abuse, times, and even societies.
It's all about change.
Now there is no American Dream:
no 2.5 kids, white picket fence, or a dog.
There are no Suzy homemakers,
the fifties have long passed.
The space that people
end up asking for
is always given:
but it never closes;
just continues to grow.
Then the bad examples keep coming,
think of all the Disney Classics:
Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast.
Snow White runs off and
lives with seven strange men;
that's just promiscuous,
Sleeping Beauty is all about society
and arranged marriages,
and all that says is:
“What can we do for each other?”
And in Cinderella,
all she does is marry up
the chain of hierarchy.
If you want to talk about controlling relationships
just look at Beauty and the Beast,
it's a form of abuse. You're only getting used to it
because honey, I've got news for you,
he isn't the one that's changing.
That's all you.
These are all bad examples of what 'love' is.
They are mirrored in day to day life
and once they become out dated,
society throws them away.
Love is just an ideal
that is slowly losing focus in daily life.
Soon it will be extinct,
but then again,
maybe it already is.
There is none of the respect that is needed
for something to be considered a real relationship.
It's just a fairytale.
There will be no happy ending because
it only ends in depression, and
how is that fair?
All that says is:
“Oh, let's make a deal!
We stay together until death does part us,
and when one of us dies,
life is just giving you a giant
FUCK YOU!'.
That's how love treats you.
There is no moving on from it,
no piecing back together
your broken life.
It will never happen.
It's an institutionalized name
putting an emotion to a religious sacrament
so that people aren't living in sin.
It's a piece of paper.
It makes you weak.
And then there are the pet names.
The “baby's” and “honey's”
they don't show love.
The only thing they do show is laziness,
not wanting to say a name.
Or you have someone on the side.
How does that make you feel?
Knowing that the person you're attached to
may have someone on the side.
How do you feel now, pet?
There will be no Romeo
to your Juliet.
But don't let that get you down,
there are no “Bonnie and Clyde's,” or
“Johnny and June's.” Not in real life.
There is no such thing as
“love at first sight.” There's only
“lust at first sight,” a physical attraction.
If men didn't think with
the wrong head,
then maybe, just maybe
people would realize this.
It's a fascination
a case of obsession,
where people are put onto a pedestal
or a high shelf.
But once they fall,
they are broken forever.
Never regaining the trust and respect
that they've lost
because by then it's gone forever.
And people will see you for who you truly are
on the inside:
a mass of cracked dishes
flung around at walls
until all that's left are
the shattered pieces.
You're left broken and lost
trying to find out who you are
while you still can,
but the influences are too strong.
It's something you can't resist
and you end up in this cesspool...
left for forgotten like the rest of us:
the old man who lost his wife of 51 years,
the woman who had an abusive boyfriend,
the teenager who gave it up that first night,
and then was dropped like nothing.
They were all used in one way or another.
Like that can of corn that you say you'll use
but you end up throwing out
because it was left forgotten.
Like that New York Strip Steak
left in the freezer
so long that it got freezer burn.
They were all used,
like the man who was left
because his girlfriend wanted
his best friend.
It's a drug that we've always been addicted to.
But there is no rehab, no help.
We are just left wanting,
hoping,
reaching.
But ultimately
we are all left
just falling short,
with no one there to catch us.
