I met a preacher

I met a preacher
On my way to Migori
He held his bible close
And snuffed his tobacco
Before he shouted hallelujah
He said the end was nigh
But he was just high.

He said he had a revelation
But first he wanted my confession
And a promise to the lord of my dedication
I sipped my brandy Napoleon
And urged him on.

He talked of the rapture
For the sake of my attention
He reminded me about Hosea
And preached about Joseph of Arimathaea
But his throat went dry
And he was set to cry
I offered him a tot
It made him stop the bible to quote.

We rode in silence
Passing the bottle back and forth
Until i saw him start to froth
I begged him to alight
But his eyes shone with strange light
Suddenly he muttered
Father forgive me for i have sinned
And from him life escaped

Years have gone by
Since the strange Goodbye
I still remember the preacher man
Each time i head to Migori
For his soul I always pray
