I Miss You

I miss you

Like a dog misses

Chasing after a squirrel

On a warm summer’s day

I miss you

Like a child misses

A friend that moved away

I miss you

Like a student misses

Going out during summer

To play

And now that I know

That you had to go

I wish that I could

Let you know

That I’ll always miss you

An imitation poem of “You Were Gone” by Nikki Giovanni
