I Need
Hanging on the edge
Fingers barely gripping
Feet with nowhere to perch
My mouth is open
My soul is screaming
My voice is dying to be let out
I sob, I cry, I gasp, and moan
Yet no words pass my dry, cracked lips
My wrists are raw with the remembrance of chains
My back is taut with the remembrance of scars
I long to grow wings like the Seraphim
I need, I need, and I need
A place of refuge
A sanctuary
A shelter for my torn inner self
Where is my shelter from the storm ravaging my countryside?
Where is the honor?
Where are the dignity and the basic humanity?
I long
I beg
I plead
The need is overwhelming
It swamps me
It consumes me
I’m drowning in my own despair
I need
Oh how I need
Freedom
