I Need to Stop
Perhaps I should stop before saying too much.
I've always wondered if I have done such,
Talking and speaking and deciphering my mind
Has never been a task of the easy kind.
Should this be a problem with which I'm concerned?
Is this a topic of which I should have heard?
Couldn't there have been a different way to say that?
Why did I say that to my parents?- Crap.
My stepdad says I'm "too young for depression",
That "all I worry about is school", and not safe forms of expression.
I'm a woman, a girl, a comic, a loner
Who wishes somebody had told me a bit sooner
That there are certain skills you grab and develop
While you are young, so you don't have to elope
To your room, all alone, to cry once there
About "how useless you are" (quote, unquote, Mother Dear).
But there's always new places for my gaze to stray.
If not the world? Well... my mind's definitely not empty.
Often I catch myself lost in new plots
Of stories and characters and books I've forgotten.
Do I write them down? No.
Most times, that isn't the point.
Writing is my escape,
Whether by pen or by mind.
