I Needed Her

Do you remember when

the world was the colour of noise

and the path beneath your feet

was frostbitten.

Do you remember when

it was better to play inside the box

rather than outside it

and the warm hearth was smitten.

Do you remember when

just as you were sure footed

the world crashed down

and you were sandwiched between.

Do you remember when

the world held wonder

just outside the box

but your hands wouldn’t be as clean.

Do you remember when

bathing the plates

was rewarded with berries and a smile

and you greedily accepted the fee.

Do you remember when

the smile lost a fight

against a six letter word

how could that be?

You wouldn’t remember

I barely do.
