I Once Was a Mountain

I may seem small now, but I used to be an impassible stone

I used to be so big, and so strong that even the air itself had to work around me

So many creatures made a home on my slope

And I could almost touch the sky

But the world around me broke me down

The wind ripped my limbs apart

The water washed away my skin

And people dug out my flesh

I used to be impassible

And everyone in the world had to work around me

I once was a mountain

And I was strong

Now I am no more than a stone, reduced to rubble

But perhaps it is best…

Because I was impassible, and everyone had to work around me

But now they can work with the flesh they dug from my body, and build again where I once stood
