i own the night
the stage was set
nobody dare attempt to place a bet
tonight was the night we're all met
the mic was calling for me
as the host called my name
rounds of applause
there was no moment of pause
my time for open mic was indeed for a great cause
i felt the energy
i felt the electricity
i felt the feeling
it was my time like the late luther vandross to shine
the stage was all mine
i spoke about a fallen black puerto rican
r.i.p pashad grey
lost him to gun violence
as i spoke
i felt the movement
i felt the mmmmmmmmmm
i felt the yes
it was that moment
i knew my poems will take off faster
than a runner dashing a 200 meter
my night was my night
i own the night
