I Pledge Allegiance
“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
With liberty and justice for all
With liberty and justice for all
As this last part resonates in my head
I don’t think how good or bad America is but I think of our love/hate relationship instead.
Never realized how I could adore something but yet despise it at the same time.
Dear America,
I love you for your freedom of speech, I thank you for your education and for the opportunities
But I hate you for the inequitable oppression
the constant cultural appropriation and microaggressions
It's a lot of things this imperfectly perfect country can fix
I could make a list, #1 Racism is in and everyone, it does exist!
You think I’m lying? Would you like proof?
Well just look at Dylan Roof
After killing 9 black people, he was sat in the back of a police car with a bulletproof vest on
He lay protected
They even fed him Mcdonald's while he lay unaffected
This is not fake news. This is reality, #2 on this list is called Police Brutality
You can’t tell me that this is not real
Because every time I leave the house my mom begs me if the police stops me keep your hands on the steering wheel
Or Trayvon Martin does that name ring a bell?
America, you let his murderer go free while his family goes through hell
Dear America what about immigration?
Working for low pay but face daily discrimination.
Or me? What about me?
Too ethnic
Or pretty for a black girl or
Too opinionated or too mad
But when this whole country was built on my ancestor's blood, tears, struggles and dreams
Realize I will fight for you but you first gotta fight for me.
