I Promise
When I see your confused, blank stare,
it is clear to me you are not all there.
It pains me to say goodbye day after day,
when there is only one thing I really want to say,
Nana I miss you.
I miss our movie nights.
I miss the funny halo fights.
I miss our conversations,
our travels to different nations.
Nana I miss you.
You would be at all my games and meets.
From the "snack mobile" I would never fail to eat.
We would sing and dance,
pledge allegiance.
Nana I miss you.
The times used to be countless,
now just brief moments of lucidness.
But while your memories fade,
I promise to save the ones we've made.
Nana I will remember you.
I will remember the woman who was there for me,
who let me run, wild and free.
I will remember the shrimp and your famous soup.
The things you did to bring joy to the group.
Nana I will remember you.
As time goes on I will continue to pray,
and say goodbye everyday.
But Nana as the moments flee,
I will never forget what you mean to me.
I promise I will remember you.
