I Remember....
I remember the day I first laid my eyes on you,
it was the feeling of pure bliss.
I remember how I used to stare from a distance,
hoping you'd notice.
I remember the first time in knew your eyes belonged to me,
and the feeling of your soft but loving kiss.
I remember how my heart craved you,
and how I’d always had your focus.
I remember all the late night talks,
the laughing, the crying, the silence.
I remember the all pinky promises,
"I'm not going anywhere baby girl... "
I remember how I learned every promise you made,
was empty.
I remember how hard my heart shattered,
when I knew your eyes weren't mine.
I remember how I'd cry myself to sleep,
wondering what I had done wrong.
I remember wanting you to call again,
and take up some of my time.
I remember wanting to see that beautiful smile,
wishing I could hear you sing our song.
I remember how angry I was with you,
because I still loved you.
I remember how I knew your heart was long gone,
And I was standing with the shadow of you.
I remember how I wrote a note saying goodbye,
to all the pain.
I remember watching my life play out in my head,
and I was ready to click the off switch.
I remember feeling cold and suddenly was warm,
and this indescribable joy came.
I remember picking myself up,
and no longer allowing myself to sink into that ditch.
I remember feeling like I'd lost the greatest love I've ever known,
but I know now that the greatest love out there for me.
Is my own.
