I Remember

I remember the sky that night

Streaked with pale, colorful stories

A bird's wing like ink upon a canvas

A streak of black pressed on the stars

The light was beautiful as it faded

The waves caressed the sands

We leaned on each other at dusk

A silent promise that you broke

You gave me light that then faded

Like the swimming sun before me

And when you went away that day

I knew that I had only leaned on

A promise as empty as the winds
