I remember

I remember a time

when I couldn't look in the mirror

without watching a tear

roll down my face

and I thought I was a disgrace

I remember a time

when my heart was so far apart

and I thought I was anything but smart

I remember a time

when I was so hurt

and my face was as worn and dry

as a desert

and the sad thing is

it was my future self

who was looking back

to when I was screaming for help

and I hope its my future self

who isn't as full of stealf

and isn't so full of pain

I hope she is dreaming of dancing in the rain

instead of going deeper down my lane
