I Remember

I remember when we had slaves, back in our time

Life that was theirs, being sold for a dime

I remember when MLK was shot for speaking his mind

But the ast time I checked, that was a human right

I remember when Malcolm X was killed for doing his thing

Aren't we all family? So why would we kill another human being?

I remember when the KKK started, and blacks were going down

Straight, point white hats and hoodies, burning crosses all around

I remember the Holocaust, when Nazis were Hitler's friends

Many people thought the Jewish race was coming to an end

I remember when rosa Parks went to jail for not giving up her seat

That was the bravery we waited for that week

I remember when AIDS was such a big scare

We don't talk much about it no, do we just not care?

I remember when the Twin Towers were hit, and many people got scared

But now when we look back, all we see is a giant glare

I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit, and what it did to Louisiana's land

This was a time that many of us lent a helping hand

I remember when my eyes were open, and I could see

I saw it all, I saw you, and I saw the true me

I can't remember when al of us actually cared for each other

We are all family, you're my sister, and you're my brother

I remember when someone said, "Life's not fair"

It's only unfair because most of us don't care.
