"I Remember"
I remember being two or three Living in Georgia only two hours from family, We used to play with dolls and were always laughing as we watched TV; I remember my mami holding me We were at your waking, My mami set her hand on yours and my tears poured But after all, Who wouldn’t miss you Momma Hall? I remember being young and you taking care of my brother and me, You were a woman, who went from someone babysitting to family, I remember watching TV and being a bit angry because of the type of donuts you gave me So I crumbled them up and lied saying I ate them delightfully, And what was funny to me is that you fell for my trickery, I remember one day I was home and my mami on the phone I remember what she said, “Ms. Tuesday is dead...” and that tore me to shreds; I remember starting elementary school, and everything seemed pretty cool But in first grade I became close to my teachers, In fact, some teachers became close to my family You watched me grow from a shy little girl to a teenager, who filled with anger to a helpful young lady, I remember celebrating the holidays together and having just because dinners, I hated leaving y’all in November but 4 years later I came back close by in December I remember saying we’ll go and take the ten hour trip and pay y’all a visit Yet a year and a few months came by until I cried once again, Our friend Mrs. Chavous called and told me that “Ms. Lani is no longer breathing.”
