I Remember
Mom, I remember
When a blanket used to make me feel safe
An invincible shield
With thread made of faith
Covering a child so ignorant
So naïve
So skeptical of pain
In some ways I am still that child
Running from the dark
But my monsters today are real
Feeding off trust
And they have shaped their scars
I know my demons now
Like I used to know my faith
And even the flick of a light switch
Could never chase them away
With every labored breath
I can taste my mistakes
And now, reaching my dreams
Depends on how much pain I can take
So I close my eyes and remember
A time before regret
When you chased away my fear
Braved the closet
Where the monsters creep
Said the coast is clear
And wished me the best of dreams
