I Remember

Lillian Firth

65 Lake Drive

Lagrange, Ga 30241

                                                               I Remember

I remember the you that you were then, my dear.

I remember you owned nothing and yet you held your head high.

The girl I remember would have never given up. Never!

Like a dedicated soldier,

You diligently fought through loss, hunger and cold, and you survived

I remember the you that you were then, my dear.

I remember you used to look at the rising and setting of the sun; it’s wondrous

Beauty to remind you that every day is a new day.

The girl I knew would have never given up. Never!

And now you think you have it all figured

Out? Putting on a “new self" doesn’t change who you really are.

I remember the you that you were then, my dear.

You are not a stranger to hardship,

Nor are you a coward. You’ve always searched for a ray

Of hope to hold on to, the girl I remember would have never given up. Never!

This is not who you are. Can't you tell? Do

Yourself a favor. Wake up! You’ve forgotten who you are.

I remember the you that you were then, my dear.

The girl I knew would have never given up. Never!
