I Remember Love
I can see the past as if it were the first few minutes after waking from a dream.
I can see it all, the ins and outs and everything between.
I can remember late nights
3:36 a.m.
Blaring bright lights
A liter of vodka in my hand
3/4 a bottle later
Trying to go home
You know, Home is always too far away.
When you're drunk and you're stoned
I lay down in front of a church
Only one thought in my head
I'm thinking, "if god really existed,
I wonder what he would have said.
If He had really died for my sake.
If in three days, He was awake.
There's no possible way. I mean,
There's nothing I can say."
Because when my pride is awake,
My every action would forsake
Every part of His plan
I just didn't understand
I can remember late nights
4:58
I woke up in screams
Because my heart couldn't take
The emptiness inside
There was No place left to hide
My thoughts weren't at peace
I was troubled, to say the least
I would cry out to Him
I'd be wanting for an end
I'd be begging for forgiveness
Because my heart wasn't His
Now I remember redemption
And I remember the cross
And I remember the last breath
The one that had saved us all
And I remember the fire I felt
On that very first night
I could see His light
And I wouldn't put up a fight
Because I remembered a vow
And as He said my name,
From that moment on,
I knew I'd never be the same
Like first time He spoke to me
Just as clear as day
He said, “You tend to consume the things
That would cause you pain”
At that moment I said
“Lord, even as I am,
You alone have my heart
And I’ll do anything I can
To make you smile
And to make you proud
From this day forward
I’ll be your loving child”
Now all my sights are
Pinned on the one above
I don't just remember sacrifice,
But I also remember love
