I See

Over my morning coffee I sit and stare Out the window Facing west. West toward the wind, the sun, the shine Toward the brilliant future And looming failure West toward Hollywood Where I’ll make it one day. I see a girl onstage dancing away Singing a melody into a mic A girl on a screen Bigger than a house Waiting for the whole world to see. I see footsteps down a blood red carpet Bright lights flashing all around Audiences screaming, WooHoo! I see a name in curly script Said here, read there, seen everywhere. But I also see A girl lost Stuck in the middle of the road Cars rushing by and nowhere to go Surrounded by fear and maybe so’s. I see sweat pouring down The side of her face Tears held back Fear held in Rejection, failure, emptiness Time and time and time again. The looming future Awaits ahead Full of promise And com-promise Beaming with bright lights And uncertainty. But I know in the end That girl will make it. It’ll all be worth it. Step By step She’ll make it. Because failure makes you stronger. Right?
