I See Not What You See

You see fat and flab upon your stomach and thighs

I see a comfy pillow and something huggable to hold on to

You see pitiful scars upon your arm, inflicted by depression

I see scars of battle, inflicted by struggle that you’ve survived

You see a bad hair day and not enough time to put on makeup

I see the natural beauty of God’s creation shining through

You see shyness and anxiety, a girl too afraid to face the world

I see a beautiful human soul, silver in nature but tarnished by history

You see a liar, a pitiful mess, someone to be ashamed of

I see someone to be proud of, someone who cares for and loves those around her

You see nothing special, just someone to be ignored and betrayed

I see a strong mind and a strong will, carrying on despite all the damage

You see a horror, a monster, a demon, an abomination, a wonton child

I see an angel, a cherub, a goddess, a guiding spirit, a beautiful queen

You look in the mirror and think you are ugly

I look at you, and I think you are perfection
