As I sit here and

As I sit here and await your return, a cold chill

Covers me like a sharp Artic blast.

You promised that you would return and I have patiently remained

Here expecting your arrival.

With each footstep that I hear, every turn of the door knob and creaking

of the opening door, I look up eagerly expecting to see you standing there.

With each disappointing day my soul screams to me that you

won’t return and my waiting is in vain.

I remember the day you left and I replay it in my mind.

I reminisce about how the sun wrapped around me, strong and loving

promising to never let go and how laughter erupted like a volcano that

had been silenced for far too long, and just like that volcano after

the eruption there was nothing but darkness all around.

Days, weeks and now months and I began to lose faith.

Then like a rainbow after a destructive storm,

light to my dark existence, reminding me of days long ago

when my whole world was full of light not never ending darkness.

My light is found in Prozac, the reason I live, laugh and love.

The thing that makes everyday worth facing and the reason I can boldly proclaim,

Depression, I shout, you are defeated again,

I am the one that got away.

As I sit here and await your return, a cold chill

Covers me like a sharp Artic blast.

You promised that you would return and I have patiently remained

Here expecting your arrival.
