I Stood Somewhere New
I do not know the time of day
But ‘twas not long ago
With high-school past, there came a thought
With silent steps, and slow
It took a moment to realize
That I stood somewhere new
That, spanning out before my eyes
Was a whole world to view
And looking, then, back behind
To where and whence I came
I tried my best to comprehend
This vast and spanning plane
For now there was an openness
I had not known before
Like crossing unexpectedly
To a patulous floor
With vaulted ceiling high above
Where, once, I did crouch low
And echoes resound off of walls
And things I do not know
Compelled, thence, ever forward
Even when I looked back
The detail of those distant days
Were fading unto black
And from those clouded annals
A star may briefly shine
Recalling to faint memory
A time simple, sublime
But cannot move forward
When clinging to the past
Though those bright days are o’er
Their impression does last
So, facing forward to what’s next
I gathered-up my strength
And set out into the unknown
To go an unknown length
For yesterday is history
And tomorrow not yet here
But now—the present—is a gift
Fret not over next year!
And thus, I knew I had crossed o’er
Some nebulous frontier
And though I tread through dark unknown
I shan’t give unto fear
For there is One who goes before
And follows-up behind
And He has so much more in store
Than could, conceive, my mind
Thus, now, I trod the winding way
And press, with Hope, through fears
And strive my best, day by day
As they melt into years
