I Think I’m About to Die

Human Growth and Development

Growing up in quite the literal sense

Boy Parts, Girl Parts, Periods

No one is taking this serious

Fourth graders are we

A simple age to be.

A year goes by

When suddenly,

A stomachache travels to my back,

My body is under attack!

What is happening to me?

Do I need to poo, or pee?

Continue your job Safety Patrol

Don’t let them see,

Your body is losing control.

I cave, I use the bathroom, I can’t hide it anymore...

...my jaw hits the floor.

What was it that I learned a year before?

...boy parts...girl parts...PERIODS!

A bathroom visit just got serious.

Fifth grader am I

I think I’m about to die!

When my mother came to pick me up from school that day,

I told her of my plight.

Recounting the details in dismay,

Her excitement gave me a fright.

Human Growth and Development

I learned I wasn’t dying

My body was just trying

To show me part of what it meant

To be a woman in a biological sense.

From girl to woman, a child no more

I can’t wait for what’s in store!
