I Thought

By: Dev Pate

First, he wandered around the block bumping into me.

I bent over to pick up my dropped groceries

Watching as he did the same.

Glancing at me, I was flattered

By his looks and muscles.

Staring at him and thinking,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he glared casually upon me.

I became thrilled to be known

By someone who is stunning and charming.

And has flawless brown hair

With the chiseled jawline, every girl dreams of.

Sitting in the darkness,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he approached me smiling like an angel.

I had a feeling of sensation within me

From the thought of him.

His green eyes met mine

Becoming my one and only companion.

Standing in the shadows,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he spoke with a delighted heart.

I instantly zoned out

Falling for him unexpectedly.

His words were suave

With his voice being convivial.

Realizing nothing,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he took me out to a site.

I whispered an expression in his ear

Making this relationship even stronger.

Our lips met when the horizon

Stood still and the sun was setting.

Giggling with him,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he hugged me out in public.

I felt warm and fuzzy inside

Wanting to cuddle even more.

Our hearts beating faster

And the desire for each other grew.

Out being exposed,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he told his parents of me.

I was nervous about being rejected

But gladly, they welcomed me inside.

He was ready, I was ready, we were ready

Hoping to be united.

Pondering upon being one,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he bought me this mind-blowing gift.

I had the tears of joy

For the great present.

The gold necklace and promise ring

Looked beautiful on me.

Almost engaged and married,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he spoke a few words and walked away.

I figured he was joking

Waiting for his return.

Games are played in relationships

Expecting for his return.

Daydreaming happily of the event,

I thought this was the BEST thing that happened.

Then, he left for good and never returned.

I felt the knife and my heart embracing,

Thorns falling on my hands,

And bees stinging my tongue when I try to forgive.

I wanted to cry my desperate soul out

Hoping things became better.

I feel as if I am surrounded by darkness

Attempting to escape and crawl out

However, still feeling depressed and dejected.

Later, I saw him with another babe of his

That is gorgeous, perfect, and extraordinary

All happy and joyful not knowing my suffering

While she doesn’t know the truth

And I am over here in terrible pain.

My heart sank like the Titanic

Trying to catch itself.

My trust has vanished,

My love has disappeared,

My faith in humanity has faded.

Now, Death calls me, to be with him, which is why

I KNEW this was the WORST thing that happened.

He was gone.
