I thought I knew
I thought I knew
I thought I was safe
I thought my examples demonstrated my future
My house radiates romance and love
My parents
hardworking soul mates
My first love became a lesson
The hardest lesson
Even though all I asked for was love
Pictures now bring pain
Fists of false love damage my confidence
I thought I knew
I excused the constant feeling of not being enough
I hid my lack of trust
My gut kept telling me
My heart refused to listen
From the outside it was clear
But feelings were blinding
Time always tells
But I wish time had not been wasted
Because I believed the empty I love you
And now my first love becomes regret
I thought I knew
But now I do
Because love is faithful
Love is hard
But love holds no demands
Love holds no fists
No demands
And feels no regrets
Love is hard
But loving should not be a lesson
Disguised as “you’re not good enough”
I thought I knew
I thought I was safe
I thought unhealthy was never me
But it was
And now I know
Love communicates
And is honest
Love is never pinocchio
And plays no hide-and-seek
Being loved is never trial-and-error
I love you
Is never an excuse
You deserve it
And so do I
