I Thought I Knew You

Twenty-freaking-seventeen.

The only word I can find to describe it is,

Eye opening.

But that’s two words.

So why not add that to the list

Of lies told this year.

Which is filled to the very last inch,

With everything that came from your mouth.

I wish I could quote my favorite one you told.

But there’s too many to choose.

Maybe it’s when you said:

“I’m going to stop talking to her.”

Or maybe it’s:

“I’m always just a text away.”

Okay, it’s definitely that one.

For it really shows,

How truly shitty you are.

I put my trust in you.

Almost one year since the death

Of my best friend,

I let you in.

Nobody can replace her,

But,

You gave me hope.

I swear,

I don’t have a bigger regret.

There was nothing more I wanted,

Then to feel like someone cared.

Strife and distress,

Love at home,

Going up in flames.

The only escape, was

Supposed to be with your words.

But you broke that down too didn’t you?

Just like you did me.
