I used to dream.
I used to dream.
I’d dream that I was old enough
to tie my shoes,
then I could and so
I’d dream that I was old enough
to cook my food,
then I could and so
I’d dream that I was old enough
to go to bed later than 10 pm
then I did and so
I’d dream that I was old enough
to drive
then I could and so
I’d dream that I was old enough
to call myself an adult
and now I can.
I’m old and adulting
and I’ve stopped dreaming.
I’m stuck longing for the past,
wanting to be so care-free
and so free of responsibility
that I dream again.
I had a dream.
Today, I had a dream.
I didn’t compromise my responsibility,
yet I found a way to dream.
I dream again.
I adult and dream
again.
