I Want The...

You reach for me

And I pull back

You raise your voice and ask why

You shout “I love can’t you see?!”

But all I hear are the repeated apologies

“Because I love you” is no excuse to treat me less than deserved

You think your exclamation redirects your actions

But actions don’t always translate to words

You say “Because I love you” I can be honest

No matter the harsh marks nor the scars left behind

Your “Because I love you” remains an excuse overtired

“Because I love you” is no eraser to the rough lines you have etched on my skin

My patience after all of these years can longer be thinned

“Because I love you” is not the needle and thread

That will stitch up the places you have teared me instead

I want a “Because I love you” I like the way your eye’s shimmer when you laugh

The “Because I love you” you have changed me from my past

The “Because I love you” I live brighter days

“Because I love you” I will be there for you, always

Love is not an apology it’s cosmology

When the stars align to forever shine

I want the “Because I love you” I only see blue skies...

“Because I love you” I want your heart not your body

“Because I love you” you are my only somebody

I want the “Because I love you” I respect you

The “Because I love you” I understand what you’ve been through

The “Because I love you” I love you and forever

No apologies, no excuses, I will be here for you through whatever
