I want to live free
The world is in a recession
Everyone is taking a recess from one another
Long gone are the days where love is a part of human nature
Long gone are the days where you actually KNOW your neighbor
Long gone are the days where we can live without fear.
It used to be fear of the BLACK man
Now it’s transformed to fear of EVERY man, woman, even kin
We no longer hold on to kindred spirits
For there is fear of evil spirits that may linger within the souls of those that we DARE call friend.
We fear the bombers and shooters in faraway places
Yet fail to touch base with the cases in our OWN backyard
You can look out the window and turn a blind eye to the gun wars and drug deals
You can witness domestic violence and shake your head in shame as you walk away
Without any attempt to help because THEIR pain is none of YOUR business
You can IGNORE the voice of screaming children
Making the assumption that it’s all fun and games
But THAT is where the problem lies…
Yes, ignorance is bliss
But that bliss only lasts for a MOMENT.
It lasts until you see the many broadcasts of the scenes that consume our world
ONE BY ONE…
Four teens shot DEAD
Young girl OVERDOSED
Mother and daughter BEAT to death
And WORST of all…
Have you seen me?
The worst part about a missing child is the fear of the UNKNOWN
Not knowing whether or not they are still breathing
Not sure if they can catch a glimpse of sunlight
Fear that they may be tortured or abused
Fear that they have NO future.
The world cannot afford to be in this recession because the CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE
We cannot afford to be IGNORANT
We cannot afford to be SELFISH
We cannot afford to be BLIND
The state of the world we live in is the result of our MANY failures
FAILURE to take CONTROL of our fears
FAILURE to take a STAND
FAILURE to ACT on behalf of others
Failure to NURTURE our human NATURE so that we may live FREE at last.
