I Want to Love You
I Want to Love You
Learning to do things on my own,
Unsure whether i would succeed -
I began to decipher the differences
Between wants and absolute needs
I want peace and happiness air around
But I don't need them to survive
Gaining confidence in my abilities
Alone, I began to thrive
I was terrorized, to be sure
Without the presence of you
Always feeling I could not
Not seeing all i could
I felt I desperately needed
As eternity came closer, you see
I learned I could stand on my own
Because I don't need you to want me.
-----
You forget that your being here
Is a privilege you could possibly lose
Carelessness on your part, to me
Will quickly see that we're through
With all that I can or could do
I've allowed you by my side
But behind a fear of losing you
I will not let my heart hide
When you were gone I learned so much
About ask these things i can do
Though I felt lonely for quite a while
I found some things to be true
It's my choice to have you with me
It's time you finally knew
I may be happy to have you here
But I don't HAVE to hold you
-----
Questioned about my choice in you
I've stood by you all this time
I've chosen you to be everything
To make my world sublime
There are times I've questioned myself
Do I want our truly love you
Have I selected what is best for us,
Myself and my children two
No one said I'm required to love
Nor to want anything at all
But i dig back in my memories
And faintly begin to recall
There's no gun to my head, no force
And I ignore advice from those who
Think i should just walk away
But I've found -
I want to love you
