I Want That Old School Love
I want that old school love
Where men were gentlemen and
Ladies acted like a lady with
No conscience
To think like a man
Courting was more popular than
One night stands
No kissing on the first date just because
Blowing on a stranger’s microphone was unheard of
The only music that played
Was sweet soft tummy butterflies
When the first time
A girl meets a guy
A woman’s body was left to the guy’s imagination
Minimal cleavage shown with no sexual exploitation
Take me back to the time
When a man was drawn more towards a woman’s heart
Without visions of sexing her down
While tearing her clothes apart
Brothers held sisters with the highest regard
Addressing her with foul language was a no-no
Any form of disrespect
A fool would be instantly checked
Yeah that old school love
Like holding hands tightly on a hot summer day
Sharing one cup of that ole sweet lemonade
Money was no option
When it came to dates
Dining at a fancy place
Was trumped by
Long walks and talks at the lake
Slow and steady was the pace
Shared life experiences were discussed
As two strangers became in touch
With one another’s realities
The way things used to be
Flirtation back and forth was a must
Instead of anything else being transpired
Strong friendships were built before relationships
Neither was impatience
For they knew getting to know one another
Was the foundation
No tick for tacks, scripts, or games
Just two mature adults on the same page
As they engaged
In the possibilities of he and she
The way things were meant to be
Between human beings
Yeah that old school love
Flowers given for no reason
A thousand kisses upon her cheek and
Talking on the phone until the wee hours of the morning
They didn’t mind waiting
Purposeful dating
Strategic mating
Not looking for someone just to lay with
But to build with
Those days was the realist
