I want to be more than I am

Sometimes I think people don’t see my potential They only see the things I’m bad at They don’t see what I can become They look at me like I’m hopeless Like who I am right now Is all I’ll ever be I try not to look at myself that way But sometimes it’s hard When I catch their pitying looks I can’t help but feel a sense of dread Deep in my chest that shakes me to my core I try my best to prove them wrong But sometimes I think I prove them right When I lie about all day Doing nothing, being nothing I prove them right, I fear I don’t want to be nothing I want to be something To be someone who can do what everyone thought I couldn’t But right now… Right now it’s hard I’m worried it’s always going to be hard That I won’t ever be the person I want to be And sometimes I try so hard, but it’s all futile.

Hi! I'm new to this website, and I've never really done poetry before, but I wanted to try my hand at it! I hope everyone likes it.
