I Want to Win
I wasn’t the strongest in my karate dojo.
Neither was I the fastest.
But there was always something about me.
It didn’t matter how many times or how hard they hit me.
I would always get back up and be
Ready to fight again.
I never gave up.
I cannot count how many times I’ve been kicked to the floor
I wanted to curl up in a ball on the ground.
I wanted to cry.
But I was always the last one standing.
When I was still a beginner who didn’t know anything,
I fought in the dumbest
And most direct way.
No matter what happened,
I just kept attacking.
And kept attacking.
I fought all the way to the top for a higher belt.
I learned better techniques.
I gained more practical experience.
And I remained steadfast,
Because I want to win.
I can’t afford to spend my time on the ground.
In academics.
In extracurriculars.
Even in my personal life.
I’m not afraid of the pain.
The blood, sweat, or tears.
I only want to be better than I am now.
I persist, I fight, and then I win.
