I Want You All To Know
I had never thought about it until now.
Why do I write poetry?
I wasn’t sure if I was helping anybody,
Or doing it for my own benefit.
I quickly found my answer.
I now know why I write.
It’s not for anyone in particular.
To whoever finds help, or joy, or anything else,
I’m glad you chose my work.
I write because I feel like I need to.
There are so many things that I don’t know are inside of me,
Until I go to write about something and it all pours out.
I’m not trying to be the best poet in the world.
I know that I can’t compare to the poetic greats.
I can only write in my own style and hope someone likes it.
Writing poetry is my way of getting my mind out there,
Without people having to know that it’s me.
I write so that I can get things off my chest.
Whether it’s something I have experienced,
Observed in the hallways at school,
Seen on the television or the computer,
I have an opinion about everything.
Not everyone will agree with my opinion,
But I want to make it known.
For these reasons and many others,
I write.
