I was her and she was me

I was her and she was me.

The girl who ran around the backyard,

Emotions on her sleeve.

The girl who loved scarlet macaws,

And wearing princess pink.

I was her and she was me.

The girl who wore athletic shorts and cowboy boots,

Who crammed emotions in her diary.

The girl who loved peace signs,

But said she hated pink.

I was her and she was me.

The girl who cried over the past,

Over what was and what was to be.

The girl who lost some friends,

Even though she gave them everything.

I was her and she was me.

Every time I see these girls,

I'm embarassed at who I used to be.

But I don't give them enough credit,

For all they've done for me.

I was them and they were me.

They always kept loving, kept going,

They were strong and steady.

I'm always growing,

And its because they cared for the seed.

I was them and they were me.

So here's to the girls I have been,

And to the girls I will be.

I'm so very proud of you,

I hope you can say the same for me.

I am you and you are me.
