I Was, I Am, I Will Be

I was a child

With scraped knees and helmet hair

The world before me, not much behind me.

I was a believer

When dreams weren't just for sleeping

And everyone was good.

I was an adventure

When fear never crossed my path

And shyness did not exist.

But now?

Now, I am older.

I have seen the world with less light in my eyes,

A world where not everyone is good

And adventure is discouraged.

Now, I am quiet.

No longer the center of everyone's attention

With my head down and mouth closed.

But I will be better.

I will see the world with a glow in my smile,

I will bring adventure back,

And I will be who I once was.
