I Was No Longer A Child

I was no longer a kid

When the dreams I attempted to create reality

Weren’t what they seemed.

When the grass on the other side

Turned out not to be so green.

When the blue birds stopped singing,

And the wind began breezing.

When my head became tortured,

With painful reality.

But the mountains I climbed,

And the rivers I crossed.

The hardships I faced,

The battles I lost.

I dust myself off

With a huff and a sigh,

And with full heart I go

No tears left to cry.

Because they all made me stronger,

Every road-block, every trial.

That is when I knew

I was no longer a child.
